Back-up system for the Isle of Man

Project scope

Earlier on this year, one of our clients reached out in search of a power solution. We previously provided this customer with a highly successful power solution so when they required another system they got in touch. The customer in question are a major M&E Contractor over on the Isle on Man, they required a generator to provide stand-by power for an IT system via a UPS. Our Sales Manager was involved with with the design and sizing of the generator and verified the electrical design before we began to manufacture the system.

PROJECT DETAILS

The final system included an AP30 3Phase 30kVA Diesel Generator powered by a Perkins 1103A-33G engine. We also included a Water Jacket Heater to aid in cold starts during cold conditions. To ensure the most relliable back-up system, we added a DSE 890 remote monitoring upgrade to allow for live status updates and management. We also added an automatic transfer switch (ATS-60) to immediately switch the generator on and to start powering the connected cables as soon as it is signalled to do so. Frequency stability was an issue working with the UPS and IT equipment. We helped to make a correction adjustment on the engine to irradiate the issue.

Once the manufacture was complete, we shipped the system over to the Isle of Man. Soon after, one of our service engineers headed over to site to commission the system. CPS can install and commission generators all over the world.
