Project details

A major fast food chain contractor involved in a brand new refrigeration storage warehouse unit contacted CPS for a bespoke backup power solution. A successful conversation with our projects team solidified their decision to work with us. This was their first time working with CPS and they sought out a complete package including design, testing and training.

Understanding the Client’s Needs

The client required a generator powerful enough to support their refrigeration systems, but quiet enough to operate within a noise limit of 75 dBA @ 1 metre. The installation area offered limited space and the ground was uneven, meaning that the equipment needed to be carefully designed and fitted to the site. The client also required full on-site testing and staff training once the system was installed.

Project overview

The Generator Solution

CPS manufactured a bespoke containerised generator solutions package. It was fitted with a 1250kva Baudouin engine and a Mecc Alte alternator, controlled through a Deep Sea Electronics module DSE7320 MKII Controller. The container also included a water jacket heater for the engine, an anti-condensation heater for the alternator, a 4-pole Schneider breaker, and a bunded base 2,000 L fuel tank, complete with a fire shut-off valve for added safety.

Acoustic and Container Upgrades

To meet the strict noise requirements, CPS designed a 40FT bespoke acoustic container with an integrated attenuator system. This upgrade was essential for reducing sound levels to within the 75 dBA limit. Bespoke motorised louvres were incorporated to manage sound levels effectively.

Project scope

Challenges

The biggest challenge was controlling noise levels due to nearby offices. The bespoke acoustic container successfully reduced the generator’s sound output to meet the required limits.

The uneven ground on-site was another challenge, so CPS designed and installed bespoke corner platforms to level the container safely.

The tight space required careful planning for delivery, positioning and airflow, but the installation was completed smoothly and without any unexpected issues.

Delivery, Testing and Training

The project was delivered within the planned 12 to 14 weeks.
Once installed, the CPS team completed a full Site Acceptance Test, including performance tests at 100% and 110% loads, acoustic testing, first fuel fill and hands-on training for the client’s staff. CPS are also taking full care for the service and maintenance contract.

Results

The generator performed exceptionally well during testing, meeting all noise and performance requirements. The client was satisfied, especially with how quiet the generator ran within its acoustic container. The project was completed on time, with no issues and now provides reliable power for the brand’s new refrigeration warehouse.
